REPERTOIRE The repertoire is largely selected from less well known operas, including opera comique. THE DIRECTORS Our Artistic Directors are professionals with volunteers helping backstage. AUDITIONS Opera South holds auditions at the National Opera Studio three or four times a year. The Company aims to engage singers aged between 23 and 32 years. However, anyone who has entered the profession later in life can be considered. Advanced students and postgraduate singers are encouraged to apply for audition. Students are frequently chosen to cover a major role, take part in the chorus, or sing at fund-raising events. Successful singers are offered a fee commensurate with the role and their previous experience.

CHORUS Apart from student singers, the chorus comprises experienced local singers of all ages who are professionally trained.
This chorus is sufficiently large and, together with the orchestra, offers a worthwhile training experience in preparation
for young aspiring soloists to progress to major opera companies.
Please get in touch, you will be made very welcome! |

Members of the chorus and other volunteers give their time to complement the high skills of the professionals with whom they are working. Activities include helping with set design, participating as stage crew, prompt, carpenters, painters, wardrobe, make-up and stage management. Most helpers welcome this opportunity of sharing in a stimulating and rewarding community achievement, one for which Opera South is justifiably proud.
