Carol Stevenson

Costume Designer

Carol Stevenson, Costume Designer for Opera South, first worked as a Textile Designer, selling her work in Europe and America, and she initially designed for theatre in Singapore. She studied Theatre Design at Croydon College, designing Cavalcade while there, and has since designed many sets and costumes for Kentish Opera; with her team she made costumes for productions including Carmen, Aida, The Pearl Fishers, Peter Grimes, Manon Lescaut, Macbeth, La Traviata, Madam Butterfly, A Masked Ball, La forza del destino and Don Quixote.

Carol has designed for Community Productions, Abbey Opera, Pavilion Opera, Opera Viva, New Sussex Opera, the Theatre Royal Northampton, the Brunton Theatre and Opera South. She takes great pains in presenting authentic costumes and finds that headgear and shoes are always difficult. In productions at Haslemere Hall, Carol’s designs have been seen in A Masked Ball, The Haunted Manor (praised in Music & Vision), Beatrice di Tenda, Si J'etais roi, Faust, and The Merry Wives of Windsor. For Kentish Opera, she designed a new production of The Pearl Fishers performed at the Churchill Theatre in May 2006.
