Alla Kravchuk

Soprano

Alla Kravchuk is the star soprano singing at the Opera South Viennese Gala Concert on 10th November 2007. Alla sang the title role in the Opera Omnibus production of Linda di Chamounix (February 1999), and the role of Norina in Don Pasquale (1997).

Born in Ukraine, Alla studied at the Kiev Conservatory with Natalia Zakharchenko and later in London with Vera Rosza. In 1995 she was a prizewinner at Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales. Guest engagements have taken her to Mid Wales Opera, the Welsh National Opera, the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, to the European Opera Centre and to the St. Petersburg Chamber Opera. From the 2001/02 season Alla was an ensemble member of the Niedersächsische Staatstheater Hannover. Her roles there (up to the 2007-8 season) include Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Mimě in La bohème, Queen of the Moon in Offenbach’s Journey to the Moon, Lola in Cavalleria rusticana, Nedda in Pagliacci, Liů in Turandot, Maria in The Bartered Bride, Antonia in Les contes d’Hoffmann, Princess in L’enfant et les sortilčges, Proserpina in Monteverdi’s La favola d’Orfeo, Michaela in Carmen, Juno in Cavalli’s La Calisto, and the title role in The Merry Widow. With the production of Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande, in which she took the female title role, she appeared at the Wiener Festwoche (Viennese festival week) and at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Alla also has an extensive concert repertoire including Haydn’s Nelson Mass at London’s South Bank, The Creation with the Academy of Oxford, Mozart’s Mass in C at Westminster Central Hall, Handel’s Messiah for Hull Choral Society and Dvorák’s Stabat Mater for Bridgewater Choral Society and Petersfield Festival. Her repertoire further includes Bach’s St John and St Matthew Passions, Mozart’s Requiem, Brahms’s Ein Deutsches Requiem, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Petite messe solennelle, Poulenc’s Stabat Mater, Britten’s War Requiem, and Schubert’s Mass in A flat. Alla has broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and 4 and also recorded the television production Natalka Poltavka by the Ukranian composer Mychola Lysenko.
