Opera South opened the

Haslemere Festival

with a

Concert

by

local schools and the Opera South Chorus

with a special guest appearance by

Elizabeth Traill

at the

Haslemere Hall

commencing at 3.00 p.m.

All Haslemere schools were invited to perform a short piece of music taken from Musical Theatre or Opera.

This concert was promoted by Opera South in the belief that music and singing should form part of the curriculum to lay the foundations for enjoyment in adult life.

Opera South also welcomed back soprano Elizabeth Traill to sing with the Chorus an extract from Gaetano Donizetti’s opera The Elixir of Love, with the English words by Guy Davenport used in the Opera South February 2007 production at the Haslemere Hall. Elizabeth sang the role of Queen of the Gypsies in the Opera South February 2008 production of The Bohemian Girl (also at the Haslemere Hall).
