About Wine, Women and Song
The phrase is the English translation of the title of a waltz, originally choral song, by Johann Strausss II (opus 333, see below), based on a proverb “Wer nicht liebt Wein, Weib, und Gesang bleibt ein Narr sein Leben lang” (“Who does not love wine, wife, and song will be a fool his whole life long”).
The image is from a print published by Kimmel and Voigt in New York, 1873, long out of copyright, and obtained from the Library of Congress.
